Happy new year folks! I wish you’re safe and healthy along the year.
I decided to abandon the 2020 year in review, it’s too late to write that thing. And I think what I’ve planned for the future is more interesting to share. As Benjamin Franklin – one of the US founding father – said:
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
I don’t want to go into a debate on whether or not planning is the right thing to do. What I’m trying to share here is more about the north star, goal, or whatever you want to call it. It’s aspirational of course, but it’s something that could kick-my-ass-off to do the thing. I need that in 2021, otherwise I don’t have any power to say no to everything else.
Live a healthy life
It’s the most foundational thing that I should enforce this year. Ruining this thing would affect everything else on top of it. And yes it requires discipline and ruthless prioritization to balance with the other aspects of my life. Yet, I found one thing that could keep me ongoing:
It’s to protect my morning.
Waking up later than 6am sucks on me. It is what it is though. That means I have to go bed before 10pm to get 8 hours of sleep. I spend my first 2 hours to pray and read The Bible, then get my breakfast if I’m not fasting that day. Afterwards, I spend another 2 hours for a deep work before I do my workout every other day.
It’s also important to surround yourself with a good community.
I’m a big believer of IRL – a.k.a in real life – community. Nothing against online community though. But the difference is real when you have a dinner with 2 or 3 people, compared to sitting-still in your chair and waiting for another tweet or so type of thing. Even a video call doesn’t cut it.
Reach $10k MRR
I think no one feels comfortable sharing their goals, especially in numbers. But here I am. Nothing to hide, that’s what I want ultimately this year. And it’s not an easy thing either!
I hope with sharing this, I would have a sense of urgency and accountability along the way. Because people are seeing this – yes, you’re reading it right now – which is scary for me.
Let’s be completely honest though:
There’s no growth in your comfort zone. And there’s no comfort in your growth zone.
In the near future, expect some charts, numbers, and everything in between. I’ll build the thing in public and share my progress periodically. Currently I’m working on Mumu – the emoji picker for macOS that finds emoji with synonyms – but I can’t wait to launch something new very soon.
Let’s dance with the rain!
2020 has been tough for most of us, including me. However, we don’t have any other choice rather than working excellently in everything this year.
- Complaining, I want to praise.
- Crying, I want to comfort.
- Give up, I want to thrive.
2021 will be the year of turnaround, at least for me; I’m committed to it.
How about you?
